Artificial Intelligence @ SJC: Addressing Artificial Intelligence at SJC

AI Statement

Addressing Artificial Intelligence @ SJC

As we plan for the academic year ahead, we wanted to share with you some things to consider as we work to address artificial intelligence within our courses, within our learning community and beyond.

Preparing for the Semester Ahead

  • Before Day 1: Establish a clear understanding of the use and misuse of AI in your course.
  • Before Day 1: Provide clear direction on how you plan to use AI detection, if at all.

  • Before Day 1: Consider including an Artificial intelligence statement in your course syllabus.

  • Before Day 1: Consider how you will handle situations where you suspect a student of using AI.

  • Before Day 1: Consider your assessments and how they might be modified to minimize AI generated responses. Consider a design assignment for written assessments that have students articulate how they went about the design of the assignment/project, etc.

  • Day 1: Discuss with students how AI can be used and misused.

  • Day 1: Consider demonstrating to students how you can use AI with content related to the course.

  • During the Course: Check in with students; consider further demonstrations on the use of AI in the course.

  • During the Course: Have brief discussions as new information on AI in higher education emerges.

  • During the Course: Provide students with relevant AI news items.
