Use the Chicago Manual of Style to find information that is not included in this guide.
Chicago style provides two citation formats: 1) author-date and 2) notes and bibliography.
Elements of Author-Date Style
Instead of note numbers and notes, this system uses parenthetical references in the text that correspond directly to a list of sources at the end of the work.
Elements of Notes and Bibliography Style
This system uses numbers in the text that correspond to numbered footnotes or endnotes. Sources cited in the notes may also be listed together in a separate bibliography at the end of the work.
The rest of the examples that you will see in this guide follow the Author-Date style.
