Citing Web Sources

Below are examples of citations for web sources. 

Note that these examples are neither double spaced nor in hanging indent format.

Remember, all reference list entries are double spaced and in hanging indent format. 

The references list begins on a new page after the text.

The page is labeled "References" in bold at the top of the page.  The label is centered.

 

 

References for Website or Webpage Sources

Webpage from a News Website with Individual Author and Date

Rajan, N. (2015, December 7). How to make your iPhone run faster. HuffPost.  http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2015/12/07/how-to-make-your-iphone-run-faster_n_8738940.html?utm_hp_ref=uk-tech&ir=UK+Tech

Note: Site name (HuffPost) is included before URL.

 

Webpage with Group Author without Date

American Psychological Association. (n.d.). Autism treatment options. http://www.apa.org/topics/autism/treatment.aspx

Note: n.d. refers to “no date.” When the author name and the site name are the same, omit the site name.

 

Webpage with Group Author with Date

Note: Site name and author name are not the same.

 

Webpage with Unknown Author

Note: Include the title of the work (italicized and in sentence case), date, and source.

Note: In-text citation includes title and date, (F. Scott Fitzgerald, n.d.).

Rules to Remember - Web Sources

Author (See page 289.)

  • If there is no identifiable author or group author, begin the entry with the title of the work.

 

Dates (See page 289.)

  • For web sources, use only a date which applies to the site's content.
  • Use a "last updated" date if it applies to the web content you are citing.
  • Do not use the copyright date from the website footer. "If no separate date of publication is indicated for the work on the webpage, treat the work as having no date."

 

Titles (See page 291.)

  • For web sources, write the title using sentence case, italicize it and place a period at the end.

 

Source (See pages 293-294.)

  • When the author, and publisher or site name of the web source are the same, omit the publisher or site name.
