Audio/Video Presentation Support: Uploading Files to Third Party Storage

A guide to assist students in utilizing Brightspace and third party tools available for creating audio and video presentations.

What Projects Would You Use This For?

Sometimes your instructor will want you to present a large file, like a video or audio presentation. Your instructor may ask you to upload the file and share the link in a discussion or for an assignment submitted to Brightspace Dropbox. Below are some common sites used for hosting and sharing files. Be aware that these files will not be assessed by TurnItIn. Please be sure to check with your instructor if this method is appropriate if it is not clearly asked for in the assignment.

Suggested projects:

- A formal video presentation

- A file larger than 2GB (the maximum file size for Dropbox)

- Special circumstances with permission from your instructor

Note: When uploading a link to Brightspace Dropbox, you may need to first paste the link into a Word Document. You can then upload that document as your submission.

Posting a Video to Youtube

How to sign in to your account:

On the YouTube.com homepage, click on the Sign In button on the top right corner of the screen and sign in using your SJC email login and password.

If you do not see a sign in button, but instead see a small circular icon, you may already be signed in, as shown below:

Uploading a video:

Click on the Create icon at the top right of the screen. This is the video camera shaped icon, indicated by the blue arrow in the picture below.

Click Upload Video in the dropdown menu that appears.

Press the Select Files button on the next screen and choose your video file. Note, this guide contains software recommendations for recording your screenrecording videos with your webcam, or editing pre-recorded files into a video.

Once your video is uploaded, you see a series of options, allowing you to add a title, description and more to your video, as shown on the screen below. Be sure to follow the requirements for your assignment.

Click Next. Unless stated by your instructor, you may skip the next two screens (titled Video Elements and Checks) by clicking Next. On the Visibility screen, shown in the screenshot below, click Unlisted. This will allow you to share the video link with your instructor, but will keep your video from being publicly listed on YouTube. When you are ready, click Save to save your video.

You will now be able to share the link to your video, or upload the link to your video to a Discussion or Dropbox assignment in Brightspace.

Posting a File to Google Drive

Sign in to your account:

To access Google Drive for file storage, log in to your SJC google account. At the top of the page, click on the Google Apps Menu, pictured below with the blue arrow pointing at it. Then, click on the Google Drive icon in the drop down menu, highlighted in red below.

Uploading a file to Google Drive:

Click on the New button on the top left of the screen.

Next, click on File Upload from the dropdown menu that appears.

Select the file you wish to upload and click Open. You will see an upload timer appear in the lower corner of your screen. When Google Drive tells you the upload is complete, it will appear in your My Drive list.

Right click on the file you wish to share and a dropdown list will appear. Click on the Share option shown below.

Here you can copy the link to the file you wish to share. Please note, SJC Google accounts will automatically restrict file sharing to those at Saint Joseph's College only. You may wish to click the "Share With Saint Joseph's College" link and change to "Anyone with the link" if you are having trouble sharing your files.
